With everything going on in today’s world, I feel very grateful to have Jennifer Singh as today’s podcast guest! She has a long history being a part of the media world in different iterations and she shares with us a ‘behind the scenes’ taste of what it’s really like in the newsroom.

She also talks about how her personality was a great fit for journalism and how that can affect the lens you see things through.

We also get into a really interesting discussion about diversity in the media and how to include voices of BIPOC not just because of their race but because of their credentials and to change the perspective about what is being reported. We also touch on the challenges we have both faced as women of colour entrepreneurs and what that has taught us about the journey of life!

This one if full of lots of amazing nuggets!

During this episode we discuss:

Constantly dealing with someone telling you that you aren’t good enough

The mindset of journalism – “if you don’t have a problem, you don’t have a story”

The human impact of reporting the news every day

Representation of women of colour in media

Adding a fresh perspective – thinking about how the story is being told in the media

Being evaluated on your knowledge not just because you are BIPOC

Who’s in front of the camera vs who’s behind the camera (making the big decisions)

What happens when there isn’t enough diversity in the newsroom

Dealing with the “where are you from?” question
